Fracking

Fracking is a process which involves drilling down into the earth and injecting shale rock with a high-pressure mixture of water, sand and chemicals to release the gas inside.

Pros:
  • Allows us to access more natural gas and oil.
  • Improved air quality. When natural gas is used, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced significantly.
  • Decrease dependency of foreing oil.

Cons:
  • Uses huge amounts of water.
  • Potentially carcinogenic chemicals used may escape and contaminate groundwater.
  • Can cause small earth tremors.

From: Marta Espinar / Gonzalo Matarrubia
To: Profesor J.L. LLavona Arregui
Subject: Report content

Our company will be named "CleverClimate". We´ll deal with intelligent climate systems for domestic homes.

We´ll need an initial investment of 200,000€ in order to rent an office, the first buying of materials and time to deal with the first clients.

Profits are expected in the third year. Until then, we´ll be focused on low cost systems for small houses. But we expect to offer premium systems from the third year to clients with specials requirements.

The main purpose of our company will be setting up intelligent climate systems in houses and turning them into smarter, easier to use and more efficient houses of the future. We are sure that the company will be successful because of the need to achieve greater comfort with lower energy waste. We have solid knowledge and wide experience in this field.

Memoramdum and Summary

The dry facts summary

Researchers predict that by the middle of the century more than half of humanity will live in water stressed areas due to climate change and rich countries spend more water.

Farming and industry account for most part of water withdrawals, and they don't pay a just price for it.

When something is too cheap people squander it, so the key to managing water better is to price it properly.

Memorandum

From: Chief Engineer, Marta Espinar
To: Chief Executive Officer, Juliane Smith
Subject: Water shortage in Spain and how it will affect to our company.

Researchers predict that in 2040 Spain will be a water-stressed area, because of the great quantity of water that our factory needs to work, it will be a problem for the company.

Currently our Factory is located in Ciudad Real, where it rains about 200 mm per year, one of the smallest average of Spain. So, will be this location the best option for us in the future?

        Source: http://javiersevillano.es/PrecipitacionMediaAnual.htm

The most rainy place is San Sebastián, but is cheaper to move to Pontevedra, the second place most rainy.

Our company will have problems due to forseeable water shortage in Spain.

In view of all these circumstances I recommend to move our factory from it’s currently site (Ciudad Real) to Pontevedra, to avoid future problems due to possible water shortage, and as well to invest in research to reduce our water consum.
